With an international career on the classical music stage, Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony, New York Philharmonic and Royal Concertgebouw. His recordings have been named Gramophone’s “Editor’s Choice” and have earned accolades, including a Diapason d’Or. A familiar name to Hong Kong audiences, Trpčeski returns this time with four fellow Macedonian musicians to present Makedonissimo, a heartfelt tribute to the music of his homeland.
Makedonissimo features a programme of diverse musical styles, blending Macedonian folk traditions with elements of jazz and classical music. From spirited dances to lyrical songs, these works brim with rich emotion and exuberant energy, rooted in tradition yet alive with contemporary flair. For the Hong Kong concert, something special awaits: local pop composer Johnny Yim, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Suona Principal Ma Wai-him and huqin player Chan Pik-sum join the Macedonian ensemble for an East-meets-West musical crossover. The finale presents two medleys blending Macedonian folk tunes with Chinese music and Cantopop, concluding the concert on a high and rousing note.
